Frequently Asked
Questions

Unlike insurance, car breakdown cover isn’t a legal requirement. But if you drive regularly, you should consider it more than just an optional extra.

Breakdown cover gives you the peace of mind that, should anything go wrong, it’s easy to get expert help and assistance.

It can also help save you money too – as everything from roadside assistance and onward travel is included in the price! In our eyes, investing in breakdown cover for your car is non-negotiable.

The answer to this question depends on your needs and circumstances, but there are pros and cons to each option.

Personal breakdown cover - Personal cover means that you as an individual are covered in any eligible vehicle. It gives you the peace of mind that you’re covered in any vehicle that breaks down, and even if you’re a passenger in someone else's broken-down vehicle, you can still call for help. The only downsides are if someone else will also be driving that vehicle, they’d also need to purchase personal cover, and, of course, if you’re not in the vehicle at the time of the breakdown, you won’t be covered.

Vehicle breakdown cover - This type of cover means that only one specific vehicle will be covered, regardless of who is driving it when it breaks down. It’s generally cheaper than personal cover and is ideal if you only drive one vehicle. But you won’t be able to use your cover if you drive a vehicle that doesn’t have breakdown cover or if you’re a passenger in another vehicle that breaks down.

A breakdown is an event that prevents you from driving your vehicle as a result of a mechanical or electrical fault/failure. The most common causes of breakdowns include everything from flat batteries and punctured tyres to blocked filters and misfuelling, but there are a few things that don’t count as breakdowns that you won’t be covered for, including:

• Collisions (unless covered by your main road risk insurance)

• Fire, theft and vandalism

• Any driver-induced fault

No matter the reason for your breakdown, our recovery operators are dedicated to getting you back on the road as soon as possible.

You will be covered in the following countries.

Albania, Andorra, Austria, Balearics, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Isles, Corsica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, San Marino, Sardinia, Serbia, Sicily, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey (west of the Bosphorus) and Vatican City.
